The public funding ecosystem for tourism digitization is broad but complex. There are multiple calls with different requirements, deadlines, and beneficiaries. This guide helps you identify which ones apply to your case and how to maximize chances of success.

The public funding landscape for digital tourism

Since Spain's Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan was approved in 2021, available funding for tourism digitization projects has grown significantly. The main funding sources include:

  • Tourism Destination Sustainability Plan (PSTD)
  • Segittur tourism sector digitization program
  • Regional government calls
  • Provincial council funding lines
  • ERDF funds for less-developed regions

Tourism Destination Sustainability Plan (PSTD)

The PSTD is probably the main funding route for municipalities and local entities. Managed by Segittur, it funds projects of up to €500,000 per municipality with 40% co-financing from the council.

What it funds: investments in tourism digitization, sustainability, accessibility, and governance. Integrated tourism management platforms like Tourism 360 fit perfectly.

Beneficiaries: tourism municipalities under 100,000 inhabitants, with modalities for larger destinations.

Keys to a successful application

Measurable, realistic objectives. Define clear indicators: reduction in in-person queries, increase in digital visits, visitor satisfaction improvement.

Proven technology. Public calls prefer technology solutions with a track record of successful rollouts and verifiable references.

Sustainability model. The project must be viable beyond the grant. How will the platform be maintained and evolved after the funding ends?

DTI alignment. If the municipality is aiming for DTI certification, the project should align with the five strategic axes.
